Joe Coughlin is a Senior Associate at Pivot Group, where he supports complex restructuring, turnaround, and performance improvement engagements across a range of industries. He brings solid experience in financial modeling, operational analysis, and stakeholder reporting, with a strong track record of supporting distressed and special-situation businesses.
Prior to joining Pivot Group, Joe served as a Senior Analyst at Phoenix Management Services, a part of JS Held, where he worked closely with cross-functional teams to assume operational and financial control of portfolio companies. In this role, he developed and managed 13-week cash flow forecasts, operating budgets, and portfolio-level financial controls, while conducting diligence and market analysis to support refinancing, sale, and exit strategies. His experience includes lender-driven engagements, quality of earnings analyses, receivership support, and complex real estate and energy projects, where his work directly informed strategic decision-making and successful transaction outcomes.
Previously, Joe was a Financial Analyst in the Client Transactions group at Goodwin Procter LLP, where he supported more than 450 transactions across M&A, Venture Capital financings, IPOs, recapitalizations, and refinancings. He built and maintained sophisticated financial models—including waterfall analyses, Pro forma capitalizations & statements, and three-statement models—and collaborated closely with attorneys and clients to analyze complex deal structures and legal documentation.
Joe holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Providence College. He also completed coursework in Rome through Providence College’s CEA program. He holds the SIE certification and is proficient in complex financial modeling, Bloomberg, PitchBook, and Host Analytics.
